Poker is a card game where players place bets into the pot that represent money. It\u2019s a game that involves chance but over time the best players are able to improve their chances of winning by playing hands that have positive expected value and bluffing when appropriate. The decisions made by a player in each round of betting are based on a combination of probability, psychology and game theory.<\/p>\n
In the first part of a hand the dealer deals the players three cards each. These are called the \u201cflop\u201d. When these cards are dealt everyone still in the hand has a good chance of having a winning hand. The cards can be a pair, straight or flush. The highest poker hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
Once the flop has been dealt there are a series of betting rounds. During each betting round the players can choose to check, raise or fold their hands. A player that raises a hand is saying they think their hand has the highest chance of winning. The other players then have the opportunity to call the bet and decide if they also believe their hand has a high chance of winning or if they should bluff as well.<\/p>\n
Bluffing is a big part of the game and can be used to fool other players into believing that you have a bad poker hand.
